Acebrophylline lowers the viscosity of the thick mucus and increases ciliary motility making it easy for mucus to be moved. It facilitates bronchial muscles relaxation by increasing certain enzymes. Terbutaline works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens airways. When the medicine is given in combination, it makes breathing easier and relives the discomfort. Guaiphenesin increases respiratory tract fluid, reduces the viscosity of tenacious secretions and acts as an expectorant.
